Love One Another: Brand Identity
John 13:31-38

Brand Identity is Big Business
John 13:34-35 (NIV) 34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
John 13:33 (NIV) 33 “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.
Love is the identity and function of a disciple.
Jesus wasn’t asking them to be nicer to one another, He was instructing them to dig deep for one another.
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (NIV) 4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
Leviticus 19:18 (NIV) 18 “‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.
Ephesians 5:1-2 (Message) 1-2 Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that.
World’s love = self-serving. Love just enough to get what you need.
God’s love = extravagant. Holding nothing back.
World’s love is transactional. God’s love is transformational.
1 John 4:20-21 (NIV) 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
If you can’t love one another within the context of both sharing in the empty cross and empty tomb, then you don’t understand love enough to make it transformational for someone else.
God’s love is transformative. One another love is contagious.
Our mission is to keep this brand identity alive.
There are two primary messages this morning:
1) Receive the Love of God and He will transform you.
2) Love those around you and be marked forever by Jesus.
