Sowing & Reaping Week 3 Prayer Seeds

Matthew 6:9-12

January 18th, 2026

Romans 12:1-2 (NIV) Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Sowing prayer reaps God’s presence.

The everyday impact of God’s presence is more than you can imagine.

Face-to-face has always been God’s desired form of relationship/communication.

Through observing Jesus, the disciples connected the dots between

  • prayer and power

  • prayer and wisdom

  • prayer and direction

  • prayer and courage

  • prayer and resolve

There were two particular things Jesus didn’t like about the current religious practice of prayer:
1. The person praying and their prayer took top billing over to whom they were praying.
2.   This type of person and prayer set the bar out of reach for the normal person.

Matthew 6:9-12 (NIV) “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’

Our Father in heaven hallowed be your name.

  • Prayer is the confident knock on the door of a known and present occupant.

  • Our prayer being personal doesn’t mean flippant; it’s our praise which keeps God elevated in His proper place.

Make Prayer Personally Directed and Praise Driven.

10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

  • We don’t have to wait for heaven later to experience God’s Kingdom now.

  • Align our will to His will, our ways to His ways.

Make Prayer Kingdom Advancing and Heart Aligning.

11 Give us today our daily bread.

  • God is my source and He is better at today than I am.

  • Tomorrow is an assumption, today is a reality.

Make Prayer Provision Asking and Source Recognizing.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

  • Jesus connects the dots between forgiving and being forgiving as necessary for all life-giving relationships.

  • Forgiveness breathes life into everyone, including ourselves.

Make Prayer Forgiveness Requesting and Forgiveness Practicing.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

  • Mind drift, heart drift, and feet drift are real things that require consistent prayer.

  • Prayer is a powerful weapon against the evil one.

Make Prayer Direction Leading & Circumstance Delivering

Pattern of Prayer

  • Personal and Praise Driven

  • Kingdom Advancing and Heart Aligning

  • Source Recognizing & Provision Asking

  • Forgiveness Requesting and Forgiveness Practicing

  • Direction Leading & Circumstance Delivering

Prayer Handles

  • The object of our prayer is God and His glory.

  • The objective of our prayers is fruitful living in 4 critical categories: kingdom alignment, daily provision, whole relationships, life direction.

The Lord’s prayer provides an everyday prayer pattern for everyday people for everyday life.

A spotty prayer life…

  • is a miscalculation of God’s desire for a face-to-face relationship with you.

  • is an underestimation of the stability available in a consistent relationship with God our Father.

  • creates an unnecessary load carried alone.

Satan can disrupt your praying (not your prayers) by

  • Diminishing prayer’s impact in your mind. [What difference will this make?]

  • Diminishing your value in God’s eyes. [He doesn’t want to hear from me.]

  • Calling into question your ability to pray. [I wouldn’t know where to start.]

Sowing prayer reaps God’s presence.

The everyday impact of God’s presence is more than we can imagine.
