Easter 2026: Life is in the Blood & Breath

John 3 Colossians 2

April 5th, 2026

Life is in the blood and in the breath!

Christmas and the Easter Weekend are bookend signature Christian celebrations of breath.

• Christmas celebrates Jesus’ first breath.

• Good Friday celebrates Jesus' last breath.

• Easter celebrates Jesus' next breath.

Jesus’ tears are connected to the emotions/heaviness that death extracts.

Jesus’ tears are connected to the loss death seals.

Matthew 1:21 (NIV) 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

Will save” is the future active indicative tense.

1. Although this would be a future act, it would happen with certainty. Jesus' mission to save was a guaranteed absolute outcome, not merely a wish or possibility.

2. Jesus would be an active Savior, the agent performing the action, not a passive figure in the process.

Jesus’ Last Breath

“It is finished.”

“With that, He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.”

What was finished?

1. Jesus’ mission was finished.

John 3:16 (NIV) “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whosever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

God gave. Jesus paid. Life offered. That was His mission.

2. The power of sin and Satan were broken. Colossians 2:13-15 (NIV) 13When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

Instead of Jesus’ death ending life, it brought life.

Giving Life phase I: Jesus’ last breath.

Giving Life phase II: Jesus' next breath.

Luke 24:4-8 (NIV) While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, He is risen! Remember how he told you while He was still with you in Galilee; The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, crucified and on the 3rd day be raised again. Then they remembered His words.”

Jesus’ Death Certificate

Cause of Death: Suffocation. The absence of breath.

1 Corinthians 15:55-57 (NIV) “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Life is in the blood and the breath of Jesus!
