Sermon Title: Fathered to Father
Matthew 6:9-13
9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
Amplified Paraphrase of the Lord’s Prayer
Our Perfect and Powerful Father who we approach in complete confidence of receiving mercy and grace make your name great so others will see you for who you really are and be changed. Break into my present darkness with your rule and reign circumventing the power that is trying to destroy something and someone under your spiritual jurisdiction. I acknowledge you as my Provider – you are better at it than I am. Give me the strength and wisdom to work with you and not against you. Forgive me of the times that I rebel against your standard of holiness and hurt you, and I will use that grace to inform and resource my forgiveness to those who don’t measure up to my standards and hurt me. Lead me in the direction of life because sometimes I am drawn to the shiny things that lead to death, and save me from the effects of this evil age, the evil one lying in wait for me and the evil circumstances I find myself in right now.

How do we protect our children? We keep them from harmful situations. We teach them to avoid harmful situations. We lock them in the basement.

Forgive me of the times that I rebel against your standard of holiness and hurt you, and I will use that grace to inform and resource my forgiveness to those who don’t measure up to my standards and hurt me.

- God is a Father Who Leads
Lead me in the direction of life because sometimes I am drawn to the shiny things that lead to death, and save me from the effects of this evil age, the evil one lying in wait for me and the evil circumstances I find myself in right now.
We are not in this alone. God blazes the trail of fatherhood and He resources our own fatherhood. In God we have… An approachable and predictable father. A protective & present father. A providing father. A forgiving father. A father who leads.
James 1:2-5
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, (fatherhood can be a trial) 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. (this circumstance will grow you as a father) 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.(as a Dad) 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
